The original promo that appeared in the newspaper on May 15, 1964, advertised the business as the Tim Horton Donut Drive-In, complete with a picture of Horton. Coffee was sold for 10 cents a cup and donuts were 69 cents. While Tim Hortons today offers a wide assortment of items, only two items were sold in that first store, coffee and donuts.

Miles Gilbert " Tim " Horton (January 12, 1930 - February 21, 1974) [1] [2] [3] was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played 24 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He spent the majority of his career playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, later playing with the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Buffalo Sabres.
